Positions Ideally-Suited for Working from Home

Driven by the many technological advancements of the past 15 years or so, the possibility of working from home, while still earning a competitive salary, is becoming a reality for more and more people. Being known either as telecommuting, teleworking, mobile working, remote working, or flexible work, the possibility of working from home has never been more accessible to so many people, at the same time.

Instead of having to commute to a place of business such as an office, warehouse, or store, present-day telecommuters make use of Wi-Fi, mobile phones, laptops, and other such digital technologies to complete their work without ever having to step foot in the company’s HQ.

Statistically speaking, around half of the entire American workforce is either fully or partially conducting their business remotely – either from home or another place of their choosing. What’s more, 90% of telecommuters say they intend on working from home for the entirety of their career, while 94% are encouraging others to do the same.

Also, teleworking was proven to reduce the turnover rate and the number of vacation days taken. It also keeps employee morale high, among many other benefits for both employer and employee alike.

Six Positions Ideally-Suited for Working from Home

Translator – The job of translating, news, documents, web pages or books, among others, can easily fall into the category of telecommuting. The task can also be performed at a translating company or on a freelance basis.

Web or Graphic Designer – Another job that falls well within the confines of remote working is a web or graphic designer. Like with translators, designers can either work for a specific company or on a freelance basis – both of which are perfectly manageable from home. And with an overabundance of how-to videos and other such learning materials available on the internet, not even training is strictly required to happen outside of the home.

Content, Ghost, and Copywriting – Most anything that involves writing content on the internet, be it content, copy, or ghostwriting, can quickly be done from home. With content marketing pretty much dominating the digital business environment, there are plenty of opportunities to be had.

Email Marketer – The job of an email marketer comprises mostly of designing various advertising campaigns, managing subscribers, and pretty much everything else that involves growing a company’s reach via email. This position can work both as a full-time and a part-time job, as well as for a specific company or as an independent freelancer.

App Developer – As long as there is an internet connection, the right type of software, and some background in computer science and software engineering, almost anyone can design or troubleshoot mobile apps for a living. What’s more, this job can be easily performed from anywhere in the world – as long as the criteria mentioned above exist.

Customer Service – With the appearance of social media and other such digital environments, the need for customer service managers has also increased. The reason for this is that there are more touch points between customers and the company, meaning that there is even more need for customer service personnel to manage these interactions. People with any background in marketing, communications, customer service or retail can be a good fit for this kind of activity.

Conclusion

This list is not exhaustive, but it does, however, present the type of work that can be easily performed from home. But as more and more businesses are shifting their operations online, many of its day-to-day tasks can be achieved via telecommuting. In the end, it’s in every company’s best interest to stop paying the cost of an employee needing an on-premise office.
